BE PROACTIVE

Your IT System forms the basis of how your business software applications, PCs, gadgets, phones, and possibly industrial equipment talk, interact and exchange information with each other.

The speed at which they talk and perform depends on the speed of the individual items such as PCs, the quality of the equipment and way in which the networked devices are connected. Simply put, if the configuration is poor then you suffer:

You can’t pour a gallon down a straw as quickly as you can down a drainpipe!

Some companies have bought all the latest equipment with little or no network design and planning.

Great…….but if your bucket has holes in, its pointless carrying it to the pipe!

In other words having all the kit is no good if it is set up incorrectly or incompatible, and for technology converts, that’s where an IT Audit proves invaluable.

Here we focus on 4 key IT System design and operation areas:

  • Networking
  • File Servers
  • Security
  • Backup

Fileservers
IT Networks are controlled from a central PC specially designed for this task, called a fileserver.

Networking
PCs have to be connected to this server. This is achieved by a series of cables and switches, or more recently - by microwave. This is known as the network infrastructure or architecture.

Security
Virus attacks, hackers, and carelessness can compromise your system. PCs do break, power can go down and generally many things can conspire towards a system failure. It is not uncommon for us to meet new clients after the event – in that situation we can only help pick up the pieces (quickly).

Backup
Even the most reliable computer is apt to break down eventually. Many professionals recommend that you make two, or even three, backups of all your files. To be especially safe, you should keep one backup in a different location from the others.
